I'm a guy and hear is my list in order of least to most embarassing:
When I was about 11 and they killed of Magnum from the 80's tv show I was devastated. Of course they brought him back from the dead for one final season & I felt like an ass.
I cried during Reagan's funeral (or burial.) I am pretty much a Democrat so that's odd but it just felt like a major passing and my father who was only a couple of years younger had died that spring. I was a later in life child so this was also the age when I started to understand more about my dad & people of that generation as opposed to simply looking at it as background/bio. Just felt like the end of an era.
Also when Michelle Kwan lost the Olympics and skated to some female version of a Sting song. But I blame that on the company I had & quite possibly alcohol +. I do not share that fact with anyone. But it was a rather moving scene.
Its not a tearful response but I always wanted to shoot myself during the Sarah McCaughlin narrated ASPA commercials. Just depressing.
Sometimes it is interesting to revive an old thread, just to see what "newbies" say! Anyway, as concerns this one (see OP and poll), some comments have been left as in naming other movies that brought a tear or mist to the eye.
I can kick myself in the rear (if I still had the youthful joints to do so!), but *ahem*, I can't believe I left off my list, the movie "Saving Private Ryan." After I first watched that one, I had to go outside and -- yep, with mist in the eyes -- just to get my thoughts together.
Funny thing -- not ha ha funny, but very reflective and pointed -- as a teacher I had/have to attend a certain number of "professional development" classes during the summer. Almost all are BS and pointless, but a few actually make good points; in this case it was the difference in the emotional development of boys and girls -- later into men and women -- and the emotional things that affect them, and that lots of times, they differ considerable. That is, women may get emotional over a movie that men do not (not always true at all, they often overlap), but quite often they do differ in terms of just what is the essence of it all.
But anyway, to illustrate the point, one part of the presentation involved the playing of the end scenes of "Saving Private Ryan." And yep, it was striking as to how us men were the ones mostly wiping our eyes (although trying to hide it! LOL). But what was truly a bit humorous was when the lights came back on and the speaker just said "It's alright guys, I do the same thing!"
Up, I cry every time especially w/the Carl and Ellie scenes, and the ending where Carl hands the little boy Ellie's pin.. the whole movie was SO cohesive, and works so beautifully altogether, each element tying in so well.
