I just finished watching "Moribito" after picking it up on a whim at Walmart. I've never been much for anime but I was seriously impressed with this one. It was a totally different vibe than American shows but was riveting to watch and truly artistic in nature. Can anyone recommend other anime shows like this one that are worth watching?
Movies:
Spirited Away
Howl's Moving Castle
My Neighbor Totoro
Grave of the Fireflies
The Count of MonteCristo is pretty good so far (4 episodes in), and it's available on Netflix "play it now". Most of the rest of the netflix stuff is dross. Dead Leaves is okay, but a little weird.
Good idea's. Start with any Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli film, and then go from there. Mr Miyazaki's work is already very popular in the West and his work, has quite a unique and artistic style to it.

Monster (very good)
Naruto and Naruto Shippuden (Great, imo)
School Rumble (if you want to laugh a lot - it's on Hulu)
Ergo Proxy
Great Teacher Onizuka (love it)
Inuyasha
Bleach (probably my favorite)
Witch Hunter Robin
This is all that I can think of right now...
Also, I'd go on Hulu and check out all the anime on there. They have a great collection.
Have you seen mark crilley's videos on youtube? He's a manga, anime author. Does some great drawing videos, how to draw manga. His series is Miki Falls. Not sure if anyone here has read it.

I agree. Anything by Miyazaki is a good place to start.
