Here is 1 link of many available re: Oregon off grid living.
http://www.livingoffgrid.org/looking-for-rural-land-in-oregon/

Do the google and read all about them.

AZ is ready to implode. Between the horrible 9 month blast furnace weather, the lack of any kind of gainful employment, the lack of education of most residents, the crime that is ALWAYS under reported, the still declining home market, the ouright bias against anyone not albino, the crazy sheriff(s) who like to shot first and ask questions later, the armed and crazed citizenry who like to shoot first and never ask any questions, the embarrassing state goverment, etc etc etc.

Just move already. Don't look back.
Just MOVE!

Well I can sympathize with some of your concerns and some not. I am definitely not looking for a nanny style socialist state. I want a state that leaves it citizens alone to pursue liberty and freedom.

I suppose I am one of those who you consider armed because I whole hardily support the 2nd amendment. Judging with the way things are going in this country you will be thankful of it because either the criminals or the dictatorial socialist govt will be the only people with weapons. One reason is just what you said, the crazy sheriff who was caught shipping weapons to the cartels this summer in the hopes of reporting it as a weapons flow from the US border states who have lenient gun laws. That was a false flag by the govt to come against the 2nd amendment. See "Operation Fast and Furious". That is one reason I am looking at Oregon as it has a fairly educated cities but mostly a Conservative state. Also it seems to have enough rain fall to raise and grow food.

I want off grid living because I want to be left alone and not interfered with. It has nothing to do with Al Gore’s sham of global warming and enriching himself with carbon taxation, but liberty.

But I agree AZ is about ready to implode. After this summer with 80,000 people being cut off the power grid in the heat of the summer I am convinced that this place will be totally uninhabitable. Mega cities are unsustainable. This place, phoenix, will turn into a blood bath if that happens for any length of time.

We're looking for the right fit. Oregon may be it...

Um, ok. I respect your opinions and don't want to use this forum to debate issues neither of us will agree on.
After reading your rationale I would suggest maybe Idaho or Montana to be a better fit for your needs and desires.
Good luck and safe travels where ever you land.

Thumbs down what it's like in Eugene Oregon?

hi,living in Eugene Oregon is now pretty much like living in very urban Los Angeles, or New York City; since there are so many people here from both those places, all the same things have moved here with them : very high property crime,a large amount of drug use, methedrine production, heroin, crime, burglary, home invasion, huge amounts of traffic clogging everything, kind of like Detroit, a huge gay population, and pretty much the same thing you find in any very urban area. Also, it's all for liberal, very socialist and anti-capitalist. I hope that answers your question.

Thumbs down semi rural Eugene?

dear Sir, there is no such thing as "semi rural Eugene." In fact, this is a very urban area, with a large amount of drug dealing, home invasion, burglary, gay population, high traffic and congestion all over Eugene, smog, and a great deal of people who have come from New York City and urban areas of Los Angeles. The property crime here is very high, and that has resulted in a lot of Eugene natives having moved away, and completely out of the county. If you move here, you should get a very large vicious dog to guard your place, and keep a handgun at home for safety.

No Eugene is not like that at all.

It is a nice part of the country to live.

Problem. You only want to spend about 250,000 for a nice 5 or just a little more area of land and a home.

If you want to be in a commute area of Eugene you have to consider. There are not a lot of 5 acre remote home sites, as you can't just cut off 5 acres from a large place. Most of the rural areas like you want, are much larger properties.

Commuting distance from Eugene, is more built up. You want rural where off the grid would be good. Not the same.

Off the grid electricity, etc. is expensive and not reliable unless it is hydro electric which is expensive and requires the right property. The weather conditions make it not solar power country. You can go days in the winter, without seeing the sun with lots of rain. Not enough wind, to make it wind power country and would be unreliable.

I have a nephew who is like you say you want to be. To get it, he had to go over 2 hours away from the more civilized areas like Eugene not commuting distance to a hospital. 7 acres on a creek, they damned and used for hydro power. Built a home from logs cut on the property. By the time he was done getting the place livable doing much of the work himself, over half million dollars invested. Very difficult to get places like this financed, especially in today's real estate market.

There are places in Oregon that may be it........but I don't think Eugene is one of them. From what I read, we are somewhat like-minded. I have lived in and around Eugene for over 30 years.......and I'm ready to get away with many of the same ideas as you. Eugene is certainly not conservative, in fact is about as liberal/progressive as they come. To find a conservative community, you need to head east over the mountains.....or south near the border with California.

Hope this helps!

Sweet Home is a *very* nice area. It is where everyone goes fishing, camping, hiking (just outside of town as it is at the base of the Cascade mountains). Foster lake just outside of town. Santiam river borders north side of town.

But I would not want to live in Sweet Home and commute to Eugene. However for a nursing job, there would be work in Sweet Home and Lebanon. Check out the following link "locations"...
Samaritan Health Services

Sweet Home real estate...
