What can you tell me about Corvallis? Thinking of relocating my family there and I have 4 children all elementary school age. How are the schools? Does Corvallis have a good community feel? Is this a great place to raise your kids? And last but not least, is the rain going to totally suck? I'm coming from Vegas where it's sunny 360 days a year, but it's unbearably hot here in the summer, the public schools are rotton, and every house looks the same--plus there is just not that community feel here. People come home, close their garage doors and never come out again. I need serious help and we want to get out of Vegas, but want to make the right decision. Job wise, we could move anywhere.

Firstly, you could try searching other threads for info on Corvallis. For example:

//www.city-data.com/forum/orego...corvallis.html

//www.city-data.com/forum/orego...e-rentals.html

//www.city-data.com/forum/eugen...-probably.html

There are many other threads as well.

If you still have questions after reading the other threads, then post your question as a new thread.

Vegas and Eugene are at opposite ends of the spectrum from one another. Night and day. Be prepared for culture shock. We live in Eugene, so I can't tell you much about Corvallis. From the time I've spent visiting Corvallis, it's a little bit like Eugene just a lot smaller and a lot less to do, and has a more conservative vibe about it (compared to Eugene).

Corvallis is a classic college town. Lovely university, bike paths everywhere, nice restaurant district by the river, good neighborhoods and an enlightened population. Great place to raise a family.

I would say Corvallis is more reserved, but is politically not more conservative than Eugene. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Eugene is politically more conservative than Corvallis.

Holls, you might want to post this in the general Oregon Forum instead of the Eugene forum. I've been through Corvallis but don't really know anything about the schools or communities.

This. 2 out of the 9 city councilors are green party members, and the town as a whole tends to vote very far to the left, especially when it comes to environmental issues.

The town's leftist attitude doesn't really show itself because (if I may be a bit un-PC for a moment) the place is filled with middle-upper class white people who do middle-upper class white people things.

i lived there from birth to the age of 10. i love it there! so many parks (great for kids), but live far from the college b/c the landlords tend to up the rent while college is in session. dont drink in the woods, the poison oak is horrible.....finding a job isnt to hard as long your a blue collar worker...... DONT get an old house, there will be mold in the walls (Corvallis is very moist)..... try not to put your kids in Garfield Elementary (Jefferson is better).....in the summer it get very humid (like really humid sometimes) so trips to the river is a good idea (most rivers have sand or big rocks, very nice compared broken glass here in AZ).....locals are nice, the only drug that poeple really do there is smoke weed but its what you think, its not LA, you can barely tell half the time.........and the worst crime you will see is like stolen bikes or a nosey neighbor (i walked all around that town unaccompanied since i was like 7)

Corvallis is a great town. I worked there for about 4 years. Summers are dry & beautiful. Winters are like any Willamette Valley town - gloomy & wet. The folks there are very friendly. It has nice neighborhoods and a busy downtown. Aside from the climate, you would probably very happy there. It's the opposite of Las Vegas in so many ways.

Oh, yeah. Politically Benton County is one of the state's most progressive.
