That rumor reminds me of some of the old road signs of about 30 years ago.
Welcome to Oregon. Spend your money then leave. Yes they really had some like that. It is the Oregon Mentality. They are always spreading rumors, to drive out newcomers and non Oregonians. They think it is fun to scare them away.
My family first went to Oregon on the Covered Wagons that arrived early 1800s, and from what I have heard, it has always been this way. Have a lot of family including several kids and grown grandchildren with some great grandchildren there right now.
