From 2010 census data:

Constitutional 9 0.19%
Democratic 1,682 36.19%
Green 25 0.54%
Libertarian 38 0.82%
Non-Partisan 1,036 22.29%
Other 72 1.55%
Progressive 5 0.11%
Registered Independent 218 4.69%
Republican 1,553 33.41%
Working Family Party 10 0.22%

So it looks to me that its about even between Democrats and Republicans/Registered Independants, with 22% not affiliated with a party- sounds to me like pretty much the national average. Certainly not Eugene, but "conservative as the come?"

Less than 38% of the registered voters are liberal. The rest are all conservatives.

Nice that you can ignore data to suit your world view...

from http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/0...lamette-Valley

Cottage Grove Presidential Elections by year

2000 R + 2%
2004 R +2%
2008 R +1.6%
2012 D +.06%

Now I would say that supports my view of Cottage Grove as a realtively evenly divided town, at least amoung those that vote.

I get the impression you have not lived there for very long and you don't seem to be in touch with the real Cottage Grove.

Me: cited Facts
you: annecdote
me: cited fact
you: add homminem attack.

Two years is plenty long enough to get a vibe for a place. You are welcome to your opinion but you are wrong, as I have proven with cited data. If you come to my town only to hang out with your right wing friends, of course you think it's "as conservative as they come", but data doesnt lie- going back to at least 2000 presidential elections have been within 2% one way or the other. Now maybe there is a huge contingent of conservatives that don't vote, but they really don't count as far as politics is concerned.

So listen up: I live here, my kids go to school here, I go to church here, I participate in local charities. I am well aware of the "real Cottage Grove" and it is my (reality based, fact-backed) opinion that your "real Cottage Grove" only exists in your mind and those of your relatives down here who a) only talk to people like themselves and b) don't vote because the overwhelming tide of crimson you talk about isnt showing up at the ballot box.

So have fun living in your head Steve, I am sure it's a great place to be you but until you can couunter my facts with facts, your opinions are nothing more than a pipe dream.

Whatever you want to believe, but for the OP, Cottage Grove is a very Conservative town. Yes there are liberals there, but they are unique and like liberals in any conservative community, they are not thought well of. You can take the grain of salt a two year resident offered, or you can take the 67 years of local experience and pioneer roots I have. Your choice.

If you cannot back up your opinions with facts, then I cant help you Steve.

If someone makes a statment and then backs it up with data, the only way the arguement can continue is if you offer some facts to back up your opinion.. amd "my 67 years" means nothing. 67 years ago Cottage Grove was a different place. The facts speak for themselves, in the last three highly partisan presidential elections the difference betwen the two candidates was marginal. Now either offer up some PROOF that your opinion means anything or drop it.

This is a fact. From the Lane County elections record:

United States President and Vice President
Vote for 1
01 = Barack Obama (DEM) 102,652 59.73
02 = Jill Stein (PAC) 2,334 1.36 06 = Will Christensen (CON) 367 .21
03 = Ross C (Rocky) Anderson (PRO) 357 .21 07 = WRITE-IN 1,196 .70
04 = Gary Johnson (LBT) 2,435 1.42 08 = OVER VOTES 111
05 = Mitt Romney (REP) 62,509 36.37 09 = UNDER VOTES 1,712

Precinct 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
4301 902 30 3 27 741 10 19 1 23
4302 938 23 2 32 947 4 16 2 26

Representative in Congress, 4th District
Vote for 1
01 = Peter A DeFazio (DEM) 113,547 67.17 04 = WRITE-IN 176 .10
02 = Chuck Huntting (LBT) 2,453 1.45 05 = OVER VOTES 26
03 = Art Robinson (REP) 52,872 31.28 06 = UNDER VOTES 4,599

Precinct 1 2 3 4 5 6
4301 1039 33 646 2 0 36
4302 1097 33 817 2 0 41

Measure 80 (legalizing personal cultivation of Mar.)
For Against
4301 799 868 0 87
4302 860 1059 0 70

It failed in Cottage Grove, but by less then 1%

4301 and 4302 and are the precincts that make up Cottage Grove.
More people voted for Obama then Romney
More people voted for DeFazio than Robinson

Cottage grove is still a predominantly Conservative town. Where Bret gets the idea it is anything else just shows how out of touch with the reality of Cottage Grove he is.

I don't need your facts. They don't tell it like it is. The town is almost Ultra Conservative and you are misleading the OP into thinking it is something it is not. The plan and simple fact is Cottage Grove is not a liberal city and if that bothers someone, it would not be a good choice.
