Laughable really. More severe how? An extra night in jail? Higher fines they will never pay? Stiffer charges? Big whoop. My sons preschool was right downtown, where these signs are, and in no way were they or the bike cops a deterrent for doing/selling drugs.
The city cant do much anyhow, its jail is busting at the seams already. So much so that they routinely let prisoners go. So I would get why there isnt much to lose by selling and using downtown.
Its gonna take a long time to clean Eugene up from the flith it has become. Its quite sad

Not new. Just an easy to read sign. All school zones in Oregon carry higher fines and stiffer penalties.

Those in the know would agree they work to a point. Those outside the loop would think it is funny. School zones in Oregon have had these signs for years, just in a state issued version.

The penalties should be equally severe near my house as they are near a school. So what, you want to have the drug dealers in my neighborhood, as long as they aren't near any schools? Sure I understand the thinking behind this but it seems pretty stupid.
