CCCVDUR....

Mammoth Lakes?? It is a small, small town, in the middle of the mountains. I used to live there. Not really comparable with the other cities you mentioned...or any city, really.

I'm referring to similarities between Mammoth Lakes, Eugene, Durango, and other others I mentioned in terms of one consistent admirable characteristic of their residents, who care about the environment, and promoting non-competitive outdoor recreation (biking, running, hiking) and environmental stewardship. Political considerations aside, everyone still loves the outdoors and to advance their own agenda w/ volunteering (organic farming, mountain biking, trail running, etc.). In respect to Mammoth Lakes the entire Eastern Sierra is very anti-development (read any of the free weekly publications you can get at any business along US-395), and pro-skiing/pro-trail running/pro-mountain biking, etc. Eugene is the same way.

Every where you will find the same atmosphere & its very difficult to live but sooner or later we have to adjust accordingly as we know that we have to face the same problem every where. My advice is to stay where ever you live, but keep your valuables at a safe place like banks etc. & Embedded your house with modern security devices.
