Eugene has at least steady demand for service sector jobs (fast food or retail). I'll try and pay more attention to how many places have "help wanted" in the window next time I'm down.

The danger with taking that type of employment in some fields is that, the longer you're out, the harder it can be to get back in. You'd obviously want to make sure you were continuing to make professional connections - attending events in your professional community, networking, etc.

Going back to complete your Masters can aid in that as well. Not saying this is what you absolutely should do, but worth inquiring if the UO or OSU would offer the program you need if they would also have a "GTF" position available for you. In which case, problem mostly solved, at least for the short run.

You all have been fantastic I remember a few years ago the warning were dire about the lack of jobs, the poor economy. It really looks like things are looking up. I have about one year left before I can quit my current job in good conscience, and then I am on my way By then, I will have my master's in social work and at least six months salary saved. I know that a lot of times people show up on city-date, ask a question, and then never return. I'll be back in about a year just in case anyone else is in the same dilemma and wondering whether the move is too risky.

Billy-J, you know I hear it all the time from my own foster kids. "You don't know what it is like to be a foster kid" and from my clients, "you don't know what it is like to be poor". I remember. I love my foster kids and my clients, I used to be them.
