Hi ya'll,

My wife is applying to transfer to UO (from Colorado) this upcoming Fall semester. It is important to us that we find a gay friendly church. We currently attend an easy-going, casual Assembly of God church (which we have been attending for six years). The denomination itself is not particularity gay-friendly; however, the people are open and welcoming. With that said, we do not need a "gay church" but one which is welcoming to gay families (we have a four year old as well). Also, I understand there is a Unitarian church which is very gay-friendly but our beliefs do not match up so that's one we are not looking into. Thanks so much for any thoughts/responses!

You won't have any trouble finding your place in Eugene, especially if you live anywhere near UO. First Christian, or probably any of the nearby Methodist or Presbyterian churches should be fine. Good luck with the transfer!

Eugene is very crunchy granola and I would be surprised if you could find any church that did not welcome a gay family. Episcopalian, Presbyterian, Quaker, any of those churches would be a good place to start.

Your orientation isn't going to cause you or your child any issues in Eugene. You could be a family of wizards and no one would blink an eye, except that small children might ask if they could pet your unicorn and you walk it down the street (on a leash and you must scoop its poop).

Ha! That is awesome! In Northern Colorado, our family is the unicorn. As a matter of fact, a young lesbian told my wife and I that our family was a four leaf clover: you hear about us but never find one. And we are not even extravagant, we're pretty boring haha. It took several years to find our place here, but it sounds the transition may be a little easier in Eugene (yay!). Thank you for your reply and thoughts.
