Why Lane County? Why not closer to Ashland if your already in the Southern part of Oregon.

Your living arrangements now sound really peaceful. Remember that the closer you get to anywhere near 1-5 the worse the homeless and crime will be. I don't know how much you've seen or dealt with it where your located now but wow its getting worse and worse.

Reviving an old thread here. We are looking at property now in and around Junction City/Cheshire. We were originally looking at Albany/Salem or Eugene but really prefer more space, rural area. Any comments on living in junction City or Cheshire?

I grew up out that way. But in Santa Clara, not all the way out to Junction City.

It's rural, but that's what you want. Some of that river bottom land may be susceptible to flooding so do your due diligence if you are looking at land close to the Willamette.

Might not be an issue, but Junction City us a LOUD town! Two rail lines with many crossings - horns all the time. Also under the flight paths for the Eugene Airport, and that includes the rural areas as well. Highway 99 through the center of town, loud. Brand new high school. Also quite politically conservative, as most of Oregon's small towns are. Lots of rural properties with older houses, market is hot there. Town is growing. A place with a real downtown and small shops and lots of civic activities. Good tax base. Conservative. Town economy based on RVs and farming. My mom and brother live there.

I don't know what it would be like to live there, but I pass through Walton along 126 when driving from Florence to Eugene. It is beautiful and has a charming store / pub/ grill. Gorgeous trees and rolling hills.

Another area I enjoyed driving through is the back roads to Salem. I took Poodle Creek Road off 126 and connected to 99N through Corvallis. Didn't quite make it to McMinnville. But I heard that is a very nice town. About 30 minutes to Salem.
