I am so glad I found this site...there is so much great information! My son was recruited to play football at the University of Oregon..I'm a single parent and he's my only child so I am moving there so I can get to his games and be a part of the Duck Mania.
I think I have a job lined up and a place to live but I would like to know about fun things to do and see during the day as well as hot night spots to go sit on a patio, sip some wine and listen to great music? Any ideas? Any other Duck fans out there?

Congratulations to your son!! GO DUCKS!!!

Duck mania is alive & well!! This is going to be a great year! You will enjoy the city of Eugene for its many bike/walking paths. Downtown you will find many brew pubs, and restaurants with outdoor seating. The Saturday market is one of my favorites. Summer & fall are very beautiful with mild weather, and lots of outdoor festivals. Good luck with your move, and enjoy!!

Great to see you support his decision and move to be near him. Eugene is a beautiful place to live. So many trees, hills and rivers it is amazing to be in the summer and fall. The community itself loves the Ducks and really turns out to support them. In fact, you will see just as many "O" stickers as you see Longhorn/A&M stickers in Texas. Eugene is certainly an outgoing town with lots of recreational activities and active people (even in the rain). There are some good restaurants and great brew pubs. There are a few theaters like the Hult Center where plays are shown, a few wine bars/jazz places, and yes, the Saturday Market (arts, crafts, food). They have celebrations throughout the year (Eugene Celebration-with the parade and crowning of the Slug Queen, which is not always a female ). Plus, Portland is 1.5 hours away, the mountains are 1 hour, the beach 1 hour.

My favorite places:

Cornucopia (good food, good beer, very chill liberal hang-out)
Jo Fed's (do not like their food, cool jazz club downstairs, good wine)
Beppe and Giannis (Italian, near campus)
McMennamins North Bank (on the river, very nice in summer)
The Rose Garden (very pretty with lots of roses-nice to walk through)
Turtles (good food, no patio)
Papa's Soul kitchen (best BBQ in Eugene, Papa is from Louisiana originally)- yes, good sweet tea
Tio Pepe's (good Mexican, NOT Tex-Mex)
Skinner's Butte (overlooks Eugene)
Spencer's Butte (overlooks the Willamette Valley)

Definitely try to get to the opening game against the Fuskies (Washington). Although, some of the students won't be back, UW is rightfully hated by any self-respecting Duck fan, so it should be very loud.

Good luck and truly enjoy the next 4 years.
