My wife and I just got back from a "retirement scouting" trip to Oregon. I'll be retired this year at 49 and my idea of retirement is a whole lotta hunting, fishing and general outdoor stuff. I originally thought the coast might be the ticket, however, when I started down the I-5 grade into the Rogue River Valley...well, all I can say is wow! I like it. Looks like a drift boat is in my future Exactly where I will move is open. My plan is to build on a couple of acres. I'm planning another trip to Oregon this summer to begin to narrow the area a bit. Can anyone tell me some general info of the valley? Are there areas I should avoid?

Imo, the Grants Pass & Roseburg areas are pretty nice.

You can join the oregonfishingforum
add a .com to that ^

For general information, one can and should read past threads where there is plenty already given. If you want specific information, it is best to ask specific questions and / or give specific clues about priorities and what you are looking for.

You mentioned you want a few acres and are interested in fishing & boating. You might look at land near Shady Grove, Rogue River, Wilderville, Galice, Leland and Applegate.

I grew up in Rogue River, spent a lot of time in Grants Pass and went to Southern Oregon College in Ashland. I think one of the best parts and unspoiled parts are the Illinois Valley west of Grants Pass.

You might get more responses about the Rogue River if you post in the general forum instead of "Eugene" as we are several hours from that area. Good Luck!
