Looking for safe uncrowded quiet areas, within 45 minute commute to Grants Pass or Eugene, and would appreciate any recommendations or advice.
Just basic amenities-a commute to big box stores is OK.
Thank you.

45 minute commute is a long commute for Oregon.
You could be very remote with this criteria.
Is there any other specifics you would like in order for the suggestions to be most suitable?

Default Re: Recommended Towns near Eugene, GP

Des and Freedom, thanks for your replies.

We visited this general area (I5 corridor, from border north to Corvallis, and points either side). And looked at online RE listings to get an idea of the market. Employment opportunities limit us to areas within commuting distance of Eugene or GP.

Our needs are a house on acreage (3+) in the $300-350K max range in a safe area. I understand a number of areas are economically depressed and/or have heavy drug use, with the associated crime. No kids, so schools are not an issue. Just trying for a semirural lifestyle. Another need is to have a dark night sky during the dry month(s) and to escape the worst of the light pollution, farther is better.

Our particular needs don't require being near malls, theatres, a mix of restuarants, etc.

From having visited in the spring, we have a bit of a feel for the weather, the drier the better (drier being a relative term).

Alsea was absolutely beautiful. Is that within 45min of Eugene?

Thank you.

If dryer is important, Southern Oregon is best. The little town of Merlin just north of Grants Pass has just exactly what you and I are both looking for -acres in the trees. You can watch the ski at night and there are plenty of acres in your price range. Some homes might be manufactured but nice. I would be happy to share my favorite Multiple Listing Service for that area upon request via PM. The drive to Medford is just spectacular as you weave your way through 14 miles of picturesque mountain passes.
