recently widowed, medical transcriptionist starting over in life and was wondering what the cost of living, etc is like in Oregon. Need to move near a hospital for my job, only 26,000 a year. What is the running and motorcycle, biking etc like there also.

Most transcriptionists I know work from home. Just saying. There are hospitals of course, you probably want a big teaching hospital in or around Portland but don't overlook the larger group practices some of them have transcriptionist pools. I haven't ridden a motorcycle here but with the automobile drivers as competent as they are in Oregon motorcycling should be wonderful. When I did ride it was 30 years ago and back east and way too much superslab cuz I didn't know any better. There are some roads out here especially out towards the coast that beg to be carved up on a sportbike... or cruiser, whatever's your taste. Cycling we do plenty of, and the roads are great for that as well. Running, hiking, whatever, it's an outdoor person's paradise just as you have no doubt heard.

Motorscooters are making a big resurgence in Portland. Quite a few dealers in the inner SE who seem to be doing gangbusters business.

Great motorcycling! I need to get another bike- every spring I yearn for it! The roads to the beach are great, but even around Portland there are some good rides. Most drivers are very nice here and respect your right to the road. Most cities have lots of parks which makes it easy for runners too. Portland has some great ones like Forest Park.

It seems like you might be able to get work just about anywhere- maybe look on Craigslist or Oregon Live classified for potential jobs.

The hard part is choosing where you want to be- rural, mid-sized city, portland, Salem, beach, etc.

Sorry to hear about your loss, best of luck to you!
