So how's the economy in Eugene? I read the unemployment rate is high, something like 12 or 13 percent. And how do people there feel about the 9 percent state income tax? Getting your money's worth? Please explain. Thanks.

Funny question coming from a member posting through a Eugene ISP.

Perhaps you'd like to give your views to get the discussion rolling.

We're all here [in Oregon] because we're "not all there."

But if the OP has a Eugene ISP it means he's posting from somewhere in Oregon. Mine comes up as Eugene sometimes... But that's interesting that he's doing so and asking about the Eugene economy...

Anyway, back on topic... I feel since we don't have a sales tax, the income tax is fine. The economy is in the tank though. Just like everywhere else at the moment. I mean, the reasons why Eugene's and Oregon's economies are so bad are kind of complicated and the subject of disagreement and controversy, but whatever the reasons, it's in the tank.

Maybe pete is on vacation and staying at a Eugene motel.
As far as the income tax goes.... When I filed my yearly taxes, I got back 2/3 of what I paid.... Then again I do not make all of of $$

Yes, I'm visiting my older brother who has lived here for a few years. We're both from northern Indiana and both worked in the RV industry. And we're both laid off. I imagine most of you know about the connection betw. Eugene and Elkhart so I won't belabor that. I'm thinking about moving in with him out here so I'm just looking for input. We may try to start a business, so I'm trying to get a feel for the local economy, where people's heads are at. Eugene's a dang sight nicer than Elkhart, so if I have to struggle I'd rather do it here. It's actually easier to get info here than talking to people in person, hard to get anything more than "Yeah, it sucks" that way. Thanks!
