I'm thinking about going to college in Eugene. My primary reason for choosing the Northwest is the climate. I love rainy days and gray-ish weather. How often is it truly like this? I find too much sunshine depressing.

I would be living near the Uni of Oregon campus. Is this a generally safe area?

Thanks!

Hey Bethany,
It's pretty constant drizzle and gray from October to early June. I like grey weather too but it is a LOT to handle. I would think about this carefully before moving. Good luck!

It depends on the year. Some years the rain is confined to the span from Dec-March. This year seems to be drier than normal.

Eugene, Oregon - Average Rainfall - Current, Historical Data will give you some rainfall data.

Average Number of Cloudy Days - Western Regional Climate Center (WRCC) for a rough gauge of cloud cover for cities in most of the western states.

Eugene will be drier and sunnier than Olympia or Portland, though grayer/rainier than just about anywhere in CA.

If you really want rain and drizzle, I recommend Astoria.

Astoria is an Excellent choice for miserable weather. (for some of us who seek Sun / BLUE skies / occasional dry weather to farm / garden / and manage livestock and orchards.).

Take your 2yrs of Jr College in ASTORIA; MUCH cheaper, then transfer to Eugene (can be plenty miserable too). (Be sure to get a transfer Contract between schools so 100% is transferred)

Thank Goodness for $19,90 Flights on 'HoBo Air' to San Diego . Guess you won't be needing those!

Thanks for the links, especially the second one.
