Hi Everyone,

I was just talking to a Eugene resident who was telling me about the spraying. Apparently, they use helicopters or planes to spray the weeds out in the woods to protect newly planted trees. Naturally, some of this weed killer drifts into the surrounding areas. Now, I guess they tell people where they do the spraying so that it's printed in the newspaper and you know what places to avoid walking/hiking. How big of a problem is this in Eugene and the surrounding areas? It sounds really scary?

Artie

Auxin based herbicides used to control broadleaf shrubs have no metabolic analogs in animals. You are exposed to essentially the same stuff every time your neighbor puts weed 'n feed on his lawn. The stuff is so safe that the EPA allows unrestricted sale to minors. There are a lot more dangerous things to be concerned about, like dying in a traffic accident.
