Dh may take a job at University of Oregon. We are currently in NYC with two young children in Kindergarden and preschool age. May I know the safest and nicest area to live near University of Oregon? How are the schools? How much does it cost for a 4 bedrooms house in that area? Thank you so much.

Just about any address south of 20th street would be my recommendation. That's a fairly wide chunk, so there should be lots of options within there.

You can find out the official ratings for Eugene schools on this page: AYP and Report Card Download - Oregon Department of Education

4 Bedroom house of around 2000 sq ft in good condition would range from $300K - 350K in that area. Here are some pics of some of the houses in this area: //www.city-data.com/forum/eugen...ml#post9779097

I would not live too close to the university area as there are some break-ins and minor property crime. I would echo the previous poster's recommendation of 20th Street and above. There is a newer development in Eugene built a few years ago. I walked through it many times. I don't remember the name or details but it's up "on top of the hill" above 28th. Any real estate agent would know where it is. I can also recommend a good agent if you're interested.

NYC is a big change from Eugene. Will the job be stable/safe enough that you won't have to worry about that? The job situation in Eugene is absolutely horrible. If "Dh" loses the job it may not be possible to find another one without a long search. I imagine it's much easier in NYC to find work?

The weather is very different and some find it a difficult adjustment. It is a cute place to live, kind of slow and sleepy, but there are things to do. The city is very bike friendly, has some interesting language immersion programs for kids, and has a performing arts center. The restaurants there are not too good, unfortunately. It seems the good ones last for about 6 months before shutting down.
