My fiance and I are thinking of moving to Eugene from Hawaii in a few months to sort of start over. I was wondering if there is building happening in the area so I might find some work. I could go back to restaurants but I'd rather keep building. I've read that jobs are hard to come by, at least good paying ones. We don't know exactly where to live either, we have a 1 year-old boy, so somewhere mellow is better. Everything else about Eugene sounds good to me, but we have to work to survive, so hopefully it's not a terrible terrible job market. There's always a restaurant hiring somewhere right?!!

I'm afraid I can't speak to the job market in Eugene, but if you are looking for work in the restaurant or construction industries there's ton of both available in Central Oregon, Bend especially. In fact, I was just saying to a friend of mine (who's a painter) that it seems like nearly all the guys I know are involved in the construction business. Yes, homes here are very expensive, but the secret is that rent is very cheap (lots of supply).

now we're leaning more toward portland, we just know that we're going to oregon cuz it's not hawaii, and not california. bend seemed too far away i guess, we've been deprived of alot living on an island so we'd like to be near where things are going on i guess. there seems to be alotta work around portland too. thanks for replying....
