European cities are known for their good public transportation systems, especially compared with most cities in the U.S. where I live. So, which cities do you think have the most comprehensive and efficient public transportation systems in terms of rapid transit trains, underground trains (metro), light rail (trams/trolleys), bus service and water transport?

Choose as many options as you like. Please explain your choices.

Yes, I have heard from people who have been there that the public transportation system in London is excellent.

I doubt many people have been to every single city on the list so it's hard to compare them all.. (I, for example, never been to London.)

Also, even the European cities with the worst public transportation are still better in that aspect than the vast majority of US cities, except maybe NYC.

The only city of that bunch I've been to that goes above and beyond with their public transit is Paris.

I agree!!!!! PLUS, to me, the three that I have been to were basically all the same, but I voted for Belgrade due to the fact they come FAST and I hardly have to wait for either a bus or trolley. And sans one time, has a Taxi driver cheated me, and they have been soooooo helpful to me all the time with one even wanting to let me use his second phone when I was there as I had left my adapter at home!

I'll pick London and Munich.

London for the very extensive underground, frequent buses and taxis, and Munich for having both an underground (less extensive) and a light rail system.

According to latest EuroTest, cities with best public transportation are: Munich, Helsinki, Vienna, Prague and Hamburg. London appeared on the bottom of the list.

I was disappointed when I moved to SF for that very reason. It's touted as one of the better in the States, but by world standards, it's pretty pathetic. Basically a commuter line with all the many flaws of such.

As to the original post. I haven't been to all the European ones, but most all of them are pretty good. Asia has a ton of great subway systems as well.

How do they decide this when most of those cities have virtually identical transport systems?

I guess peoples experience with the London public transport has been a lot better then that survey shows.. and exactly why I don't take any notice of them.
