I disagree, many French eat couscous.
In my family, we eat couscous almost every week.
I am not of North African descent.

Few French people eat couscous. I ate it twice in my all life whereas I eat duck once a week.

19% ? Where did you get this information ?

Couscous is very popular in France, french favorite main dish.

About "couscous" : already for the Europeans from Algeria who fled the country upon independence (1962) , couscous was a common staple. So they imported in continental France the habit of eating that dish, which was less popular and widespread before their homecoming.

People don't eat couscous because they love it, it is just because it's really cheap compared to the meat!
When you are student or from a modest background, you often eat pastas, rice and couscous (you add some meat with it if you can)....

France seems a country like any other with faults and virtues of its own. It is a country with some valuable intellectualism and joie de vivre, but it can also seem rather navel gazing, caught up in its own history and ways to the point where it exoticises or dismisses things from afar more than it ought. And I speak less of multiculturalism then I do a certain ethnocentrism

I'm not French, but I doubt that only Maghrebins like couscous in France. Tu te fous de ma gueule?

Without meat couscous is nothing but hot cereal, reminiscent of Russian millet porridge.
