Both seem popular with British ex-pats and holidaymakers, mostly the warmer, sunnier southern part of France. One day I might live in one of these countries, at least for a time.
Which offers a better quality of life iyo?
Which is more affordable in terms of real estate and cost of living?
Which country is easier to adapt to?
Which is easier for an English speaker to live in, assuming they'll have a pretty basic command of English?
Which country tends to be friendlier to foreigners?

If you want to be living in one of these countries you have to previously learn the local culture, using the language and show interest in locals. This is usually not well seen that "expacts" just come to sunny regions to buy the best houses (making prices going up), and still living in "expat" anglo communities. Foreign people are usually expected to adopt local culture (at least in France, I don't know for Spain)

I mentioned on another thread that we live in Spain for 15 years and it was the best place we ever lived as a family. My children are Eurasian, they have no Spanish blood but they were born in Spain and never had any problems. The Spanish people accept them as Spanish since they are born there. Oh I suppose there are ultra racists somewhere who dont but I never met one. There was absolutely no racism or ethnocentrism shown toward them. When we came to the Statesit was waaaay different. All but one of my kids eventually returned to Spain.

The most useful posts on this site: quick generalizations about 65 million people?
The answer is extremely subjective. Paris, Grenoble, Montpellier, Barcelona, Benidorm and Cadiz are 6 pretty different places.

I agree. We only have to look at Sarkozy to see that.

So what? Sarkozy is Sarkozy. If I assumed that all Brits were like you I wouldn't touch the islands with a ten foot pole.
