Portugal is a country with an admirable population peaceful hardworking honest . without delinquence that is not rich like other european countries for a simple reason because the necesary capital to initiate the industrial revolution the machinismo Portugal the invested the last Century in your colonial empire and later
in defending of the empire it without success.

But is a very civilized people with great gastronomy with a very nostalgic popular music(The Fado) from other times of past glories and great travelers for all the Seas in the world that their navigators discovered .-

Portugal looks little like Spain because its history is very different and because that its industrialization has been delayed by the that I comment it before and Portugal can not replace the lack industralization it with mineral wealth or large territories such as in other countries such as for example Brazil.-

True for some reason they think Portugal makes a good punching bag. They get the hint though once they get their teeth kicked in a few times with a verbal lashing.

One could almost believe that the American president-elect was posting in this thread.

Kevxu.-

As a Spanish I must thank AFP for the indignation with which I reply to a comment of a Forista
full of contempt and injustice with Spain , Portugal and its citizens .With the aggravation of a sufficiency without unfounded of great knowledge of these countries-

It is true that the forms of AFP have been very hard and with few diplomacy .But also that has shown that in the USA there are people much more informed and affective with other countries such as Spain and Portugal and also this gives much prestige to USA.-

I hope and want that the american president elect that quote you, in your post, although can to fail some thing. in the form and diplomacy, in your future mandate to can have great success in the fund as Mr AFP in this case .-

It's important to be clear with people who have crossed the line and have gone beyond giving their opinion and have become disrespectful we must not tolerate this ever. Such people behave like" bestias" and were not raised to be respectful like we were and cannot be responded to diplomatically.

Absolutely false. He wasn't worse than the Spanish Republicans (Communists or anarchists) who murdered hundreds of thousand of people during the Civil War. Get your fact straight.
Indeed. Anarquists, socialists and communists started to kill "fith columnists" and create terror before the war. All went against wealthy people and church goers, anybody that read certain papers, had a motorcicle, etc. It was terror. They were tortured in "chekas". Then communists attacked anarchists and moderate republicans.

Russia stole all gold reserves and send some tanks and planes, but when Stalin saw that anarchists were more powerful..he cut all supply of weapons. My great uncle was anarchist and was shot by communists on May 1937. It was a civil war within a civil war..just like a matriuska.

Franco committed many errors but he rebuilt Spain from scratch and for the first time in Spanish history, he created a middle class.

As to the question, Brazil was allocated to Portugal during the Treaty of Tordesillas in which Spain and Portugal divided America. Brazil was Spanish during 90 years, when Portugal became Spanish again.

All the Portuguese empire became one with the Spanish..and Phillip II conceived the crazy idea of invading China.."emulating Cortez in Mexico". When the studied the matter, they found out it was a crazy idea.

Portugal never became Spanish again in your dreams. Portugal pre-dates Spain by about 300 years. What we did have for 60 years was the Iberian Union. The crowns of Portugal, Castile, and Aragon were ruled by one Monarch. Portugal and it's colonies were administered by the council of Portugal during he Iberian union and had a great deal of autonomy. The whole ridiculous union was ended due to the Portuguese restoration war which is celebrated December 1.

80 years I believe. I could Protugal pre-date Spain by 300 years when it's just an offshoot of the Kingdom of León?

To illustrate Castile and Aragon gained importance particularly Castile(to the point it essentially absorbed Aragon) because during the Reconquista they got the heart of Al-Andalus and annexed it from there a shift to build up the North and tear down the South in power and wealth started.

Castile did not exist at that time. The Kingdom of León was as an offshot of the Kingdom of Asturias, and the Kingdom of Portugal an offshot of the kingdom of León.
