There are retirees as well, but no one seems to have very solid numbers. I suspect that the largest number of U.S. citizens probably retire south of the American border.

My impression is that there may be a modest number in Ireland. I have lived in Madeira, the Portuguese mainland and Cyprus, and I have rarely met a retired American...usually I have been The American. At one time, ten years ago, perhaps, I did see figures for the number of retired Americans in Portugal, and most of them were in the Acores.

I wouldn't say exactly the same, but the two countries are certainly very similar.

Ireland is tiny and pretty insignificant by comparison , both culturally and economically , bar the language commonality and climate , their not that similar , less than Canada and the usa or Australia and new Zealand IMO

There are many differences - Brits tend to be less religious and maybe more liberal, and the stance on abortion is pretty drastic, but there are many similarities too, and our two countries look like the same place.

I disagree maybe its because i'm from NI. But certainly here we are basically the same as England. Same shops, same laws, same education system etc.

Except that the Irish corporate tax rate is 12.5% and 24% or something like that in the UK. So American companies seem to prefer Ireland for that reason. For example Dell, Intel or Google.
