I wonder this since I've heard too many different opinions around Europe and the world, and also the similar thread about Scandinavia gave me the idea to make another one

Americans think Spain is some city in Mexico, even Hispanic Americans don't know about Spain. They are clearly black or brown, but they call themselves "Spanish", when they definitely aren't.

At the total opposite from an American that doesn't know where Spain is, a Romanian living in Spain for 1 year, that has visited almost all of the Iberian peninsula would say that it's a quite heterogeneous place.

Spoiler alert!!!

The south - Andalucia: flamenco, bull fights, hot summers, snowy Sierra Nevada, green Alpujaras, great Islamic architecture, good beaches, gazpacho, Almeria green-houses, driest place in Europe, high unemployment.
East - Murcia, Alicante: Beaches, Guirris, Orchards, Pine trees, Climbing paradise.
East - Valencia, Barcelona: great cities, lots of architecture from Roman to Calatrava, Paella, good industry.
Center: temperature extremes, windmills, poor except Madrid, Mudejar in Teruel, Gothic in Burgos/Leon, jamon, pigs and acorns in Extremadura.
North: Green, majestic Pyrenees, good industry in Basque country, pintxos
North-West - Galicia-Asturia: Green forested mountains, cows, cheese, sea-food, barnacles, beautiful cold beaches, wet in winter, cute cities (Oviedo is my favourite)
West Portugal - Wet and moldy in winter, sunny and bursting with night life in summer, good surf beaches, bacalau, pasteis de nata, rather poorer country.

Overall: good food (fruit, veggies, olive oil, cheeses, dried meats, fish, sea-food), good wines, crappy beer, crappy music, cheap and ubiquitous highways, cheap flights connecting with almost everything, recession, unemployment, youths even more unemployed, technology avid, bad/expensive internet, cheap restaurants, great weather, great beaches/mountains, girls are fit, guys watch football and F1. Friendly people, but sometimes loud botellones. Corrupt politicians/royal family. Long or often breaks, lots of meals and snacks, late dinners.

I think lots of people have no idea that Spain is in Europe and isn't some completely hot, arid place year-round with cowboys and sombreros.

Not only that, but lots of people don't know that Spain borders France. Lots of people know where France is, but have no idea that Spain is the country hanging onto southern France . It's strange, because Spain is also the 3rd largest European country west of Russia.

I'm more interested in hearing about what other Europeans think about Iberian countries then reading more stereotypically-based assertions about how Americans don't know where Spain and Portugal are. Although I suspect you'll find some shallow misconceptions about those countries from some other Europeans as well.

Hmm, Aren't you Hispanic of mixed or predominant Spanish or other predominant European ancestry?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

From a saying I heard from some fellow European friends is that true "whiteness and/or Europeanness" ends in the Pyrenees lol.

The Iberian Peninsula is a very important contributor to the success and prestige that is Europe. That's also something recognized by Europeans along with the acknowledgements of Greece, Italy etc
