What causes the Irish to be SO FRIENDLY and the Scandinavians so chilly?
Perhaps these are purely your personal perception and experiences (right place/right time versus wrong place/wrong time), 'your lucky day' along with generalizations, stereotypes. There are SO many reasons why you experienced these differences but I don't think anyone can say as a pure fact that these are hard and fast, 'engraved in stone' realities.
The world's friendliest countries:New map reveals Iceland is the coolest place to go on vacation (but try to avoid Bolivia) Iceland's 319,000 people are ranked the friendliest in the world to foreign visitors.
Are you fluent in Finnish or Swedish? Can you follow conversations and interact on their terms? Otherwise it's very hard to make a believable judgement on how people are in certain countries as I'm sure you can with the Irish.

Just a POV from my personal experiences, generally speaking, yes the Greek people seem to be, by nature very (VERY) friendly; generally speaking, yes, definitely has been my personal experience as well. However, I think it depends where in Greece one is doing the 'experiencing'.
The islands and the farther one is from major city, town, village or prefecture...extremely friendly and outgoing people. I found Athens to be a different matter based on what ones needs are at any given moment in time; 75% great and 25% downright crude and rude. BUT I attribute that to their environment of constantly being overwhelmed by lost/confused and disoriented strangers who obviously do not have a familiarity with their money, banks, services, transportation, communications (internet, phones) city and/or customs.
The 11 Rudest Countries and 16 Friendliest Countries to Visit
9. Greece - “We found the rudest people in Greece, beginning with the tour director to Rhodes, Delphi and Meteora. She screamed at us as if she were a drill sergeant."
Angelica Amaya Sandoval likes Finland ja especially the Finns (pic Miia Roivainen / YLE)
The 26-year old doctor from Spain is tired but happy.
Todo bien, I came here in October.
Born in Bogota Colombia, lived in Barcelona Spain, she came with 7 other Spanish doctors to the Kainuu region.
Angelica was surprised already at the Helsinki airport. Not of the weather or autumn gloominess, but the people.
- Everyone is so friendly and nice. I was warned that the Finns are so serious, but that is definitely not true!
Adding to the friendliness, Angelica has noticed that friendship is very different.
- In Latin places you can find 20 friends in a day but they don't last. When you find a friend in Finland, it's true friendship.
- Working here is similar as in Spain, but more calm and it's easier to specialise yourself (dreams to become a neurosurgeon). There's no problems with patients. They speak slowly and show where it hurts. The Finns are very symbolical and patient. I really want to be here.
- I like the nature, it's not even cold now and the darkness doesn't bother me. My future is in Finland, and I try hard to study Finnish. Apart from my family and friends I don't miss much from Spain. Oh... well, the sun, that I miss.
- Just try and try and speak the language. I have sisu (guts), she says in clear Finnish.
I think Finnish people are well aware of their stereotypes and that's why they try to prove them wrong. Of course they are going to be friendly to a pretty Colombian girl, what did you expect

like Sofia Vergara said when she came to america:
This country welcomed me with open arms and pulled down pants

Might be. But if you're going to a doctor I hardly think the stereotypian impression is the first thing on your mind.
Or might it be that we really are friendly and easy-going, and not rude suicidial drunks the world like to paint us?
The vast majority of people who visit her are most likely like 80, so I don't think they have much a reason to polish our image. Yes, she is pretty, but we really are friendly and not some knife-swingers.

Is there a stereotype for Finnish people?
Maybe among neighbours, Russians might have one.
I thought that the girl was Lapo, she does not look Spanish.
