I also spent a year stationed in West Berlin, when it was like an island surrounded by the Berlin wall.

The new iron curtain is perhaps more of a barrier than the original one from the 1940s to late 1980s. This time, it seems like almost all trade will be cut, all cultural and sporting participation will be cut, and almost all travel or tourism across the new iron curtain will be cut. What a self-inflicted, foolish disaster this will turn into for Russia for the next several decades. They forgot that nobody really wins a war.
Yes, this new iron curtain is a lot thicker....10 times as thick or more.

Russia is beginning to re-open the former McDonald's restaurants. In order to keep the patrons smiling, McVodka has been added to the menu in place of ketchup, and there is McBeer for the children. Anyone caught mentioning the War on Ukraine will be summarily arrested and McJailed and subjected to McTorture.

An event filled with corruption and doping. Russia really excels in those areas.

That won't be anything new. Didn't they host their own Olympics once, back during a political freeze of some sort? Or did that come exclusively from the US side, with Ted Turner creating the Goodwill Games, for the couple of years when Russia was shut out of the Olympics?
