How is possible such a mistake? Why did the authorities allowed such an operation and weren't any technical supervisors? You don't have to be an engineer to realize the barges were going to balance and fall.
The crane operators failed
1. to secure the crane to the barge permanently for the event.
2. No flags to warn of wind.
3. lack of experience working on water.
4. working too fast.
5. lacking tag lines on the object being moved.
6. failing to notify surrounding area under potential risk.
that's so retarded, it could by itself explain the whole history of oppression by Dutch (also British and Belgian...) to American Indians and Africans...
No, no one was injured. The OP got old info. At first they thought there were 20 people injured, a day later they thought just one, and ultimately it turned out not a single person was hurt. Only a dog that was still in one of the houses died.
What happened is terrible, but as usual the press is throwing oil on the fire by sending all kinds of bad stories in the news.
The contractor that was responsible for this is actually a very well known, respected company that have done lots of similar jobs without any problems. And, unlike the insurance companies, they're doing a lot for the involved families.
Jobs like this are done every day, all over the world with good results, but in the end they're still people, and people make mistakes...
Is too hazardous. Ofcourse there can be instances when everything goes fine, but the probability for an accident is high.
In Romania such kind of operations surely is forbidden. I'm from a family of construction engineers and I have some clues about regulations in the industry. The constructor would be forced to use more secure methods, though more costly as well.
