We have a flat in Caiscais and love the area but, as it is becoming more of a tourist destination we have considered possibly selling and purchasing a property in Algarve. Wondering the pro’s and con’s of Algarve over Cascais? Obrigado,

Cascais has always been a touristy area. There are place in the Algarve that are less touristy, but it's still an area that's been "discovered".
Out of curiosity, have you ever thought about Madeira? Or further afield, the Azores?

We have talked about Madeira, Azores is beautiful but a bit isolated for me.

I would suggest inland eastern Algarve. However, as I remember it, sparsely populated so perhaps a bit isolated for you as well.

But things may have changed in past 15-20 years.

Algarve:

Pros

Weather
Nature - although Cascais also has it
Property prices are cheaper

Cons

Away from the capital
Less culture offerings
Can't use much public transportation

Cascais

Pros
Much more offerings be it restaurants, cultural, etc
Nature
Beauty and the beaches - Algarve as well depending where
Getting a benefit from valuable real estate - Cascais has always been a hot european spot so prices will stay up

Cons
More expensive
More crowded as you say

In my opinion, I would stay in Cascais... plenty of areas where it seems you are in the rural area but still near everything.

The area in Areia or Birre is pretty good. Used to live there ... however property prices aren't cheap... a SFH should hit 1M in those areas... apartments depending where, north of 300k for sure

Thanks. We plan to spend 3 weeks in Algarve in September but, at least for me, Cascais is a very special place. We recently met a couple who lived for several years close by, then moved to Uraguay after a brief vacation. Three years later they are back in Cascais, somewhat discouraged that they can no longer afford a home similar to the one they left.

Caiscais is touristy and so is Algarve, and it's only going to become "worse". How about Setubal, Porto or Aveiro?

Aveiro along with Coimbra are near the top of my list I don't care to live somewhere where there are so many foreign tourists and don't like too much density. If they're not careful Lisbon and Porto will be ruined by too many tourists.
