If Portugal is so horrible then why than more than 97% of tourists leave satisfied. Do us a favour, if you don't like it then don't come back! Simple as that.

No I actually have been there, 3 weeks at a time unfortunately to go visit family. My family lives in the Guarda area. Sure Portugal may be nice if you go to tourist areas, resorts, Algarve etc, but you would have to pay me to willingly go back. There is no denying how bad the hospitals are, so don't even go there. I thought i was in a haunted house when I had to go to one. But I won't deny it is a beautiful country, except i was turned off on all the graffiti on the beautiful buildings in Coimbra, ruined all the scenery for me. The highways are great ill give you that, but outside of major cities, its a hell hole.

Guarda is one of the poorest cities in Portugal, so no wonder you think like that.
Again there are good and bad hospitals. And the system is better than the American one.
If you don't like Portugal due to the lack of good infrastructure then don't go to other European nations (especially Eastern Europe).

The interior of Portugal is much less developed by all measures of which Guarda is part of.

Yea its great in Portugal, the doctors only working until 11 A.M. and taking 5 days to have a meeting on what to do a patient, basically letting patients die thats real great. At least in the United States, they aren't letting me die while they go on 3 hour lunch breaks. The Portuguese people are just lazy now a days and thats why the economy is in such a mess. As someone who has the Portuguese flag on the back of my car, that is reality. I will never forget my roots but reality is reality.

No, that's wrong. Portuguese people are actually one of the peoples who work more hours in Europe. Their salaries are just low. The economy is bad due to bad politicians and the previous governments which made very bad economic decisions.
It's not my fault if your family is from a backward area in a modern and rich country.

That's an exaggeration although there are plenty of lazy people there are also plenty of Portuguese people that are very productive. Some of my family members live in Portugal own their own businesses and they are far from being lazy. You paint with a broad brush. Regarding the economy one of the problems as I see it is that many people were foolish with the subsides thinking the goose was going to lay the golden egg forever and squandered the money rather than invest it in an intelligent way in their businesses so that they could compete effectively. Also some of the companies contracted to complete projects were inexperienced with larger projects but had connections to people in government who they gave kickbacks to for getting the job, but much of it will never come out because usually they all cover for each other. In the small rural towns often wasteful pork projects were approved partially because they kept people working. The government is extremely inefficient so much bureaucracy involved in starting a project. I know an extremely successful businessman in California born in Portugal he wanted to give back to his country of origin he invested in a supermarket as the largest partner it took years to be approved and completed he said it was the biggest headache and extremely complex jumping through all the hoops, finally he took it into his hands and had to personally track down all the gov't officials to get documents signed because otherwise all his paperwork would sit in peoples desks and they might get to it or they might not, even then they had him going in circles. It's all about power with many of the city officials in the country especially the smaller towns.

The problem is that all of that all of that bureaucracy keeps people working in the tertiary sector. No doubt efficiency could be increased but then what do you do with all of those people whose positions are eliminated. But dealing with the arrogance and corruption of gov't officials should be a major priority, but I doubt they will corruption is even more accepted and tolerated with some of Portugal's largest trading partners specifically Angola and they are currently investing significantly in Portugal.
