You know...you're right. It's those Romanians again - it's not the Muslims with their fascinating beheading culture. What's wrong with beheading children anyway? I think it's those Jew-saving racists from Romania/Bulgaria who are the problem and NOT the muslims.
^ I actually managed to write this keeping a straight face :-)
what I don't understand is why the migrants, once arrived in Greece, an EU country, didn't follow their route through the EU, crossing into Bulgaria then Romania to get to Hungary , and instead elected to travel through non EU countries Macedonia and Serbia to try to enter the EU again in Hungary (and now it seems also Croatia) . It seems completely illogical, irrationnal.
Thing is that controls are rather tough at the Bulgarian border with a multinational police force looking out for migrants. Besides that, Romania and Bulgaria aren't part of Schengen, so they'd face border checks in those countries anyway.
Serbia, on the other hand, offers free transportation to Hungary/Croatia without checking their documents or asking them to register. In case there are difficulties a simple bribe will do. Easy peasy. I'd go for Macedonia/Serbia as well.

hehehe the revenge of Serbia for the EU / NATO air strikes and political embargo in the late nineties. People do have looooong memories in that part of the world...

Plus that the route through Bulgaria & Romania would be longer and more difficult, requiring crossing the Rodopes and Balkan mountains in Bulgaria (difficult mountain passes) and in Romania having to cross Carpathians two times, first time into Transylvania through Southern Carpathians, then from Transylvania into Pannonian Plain through Western Carpathians. And as there are no motorways and the roads are busy, the traffic would be slow. It will take two days at least through BG - RO, while through MK - RS probably only one day.

It is the shortest route to get to the Schengen space. As somebody else was mentioning the route through Bulgaria and Romania beside being longer would involve crossing some serious mountains and that would add a lot of hours by train or car. Just from the Romanian border to Bulgaria it is a long voyage to get to Hungary.

Well the vampires of Romania would be happy. Think of all that new blood! *LOL*
