I would not consider the Mustang a sports car. The same goes for the BMW M4. The Mazda Miata/MX-5, on the other hand, is a typical sports car.

SUVs are more popular than sports car. I am pretty sure the Macan and Cayenne are the best-selling Porsche models in the UK. Afterall, Cayenne is the model that saved Porsche 13 years ago.

The Mustang is not a proper sports car. The Corvette and Viper are both typical sports cars. The Mustang and Camaro are sport coupes/muscle cars. The M4 and Mustang Shelby are typical performance coupes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car

Typical sports cars:
Mazda MX-5/Miata - the world's best-selling sports car
Honda NSX
Ferrari 458
Chevrolet Corvette
Lamborghini Miura - the world's first supercar

GT cars:
Ferrari FF, F12berlinetta and California T
Aston Martin DB9

Muscle cars:
Ford Mustang
Chevy Camaro
Mercedes-AMG C63 AMG (maybe)

"A car may be a sporting automobile without being a sports car. Performance modifications of regular, production cars, such as sport compacts, sports sedans, muscle cars, hot hatches and the like, generally are not considered sports cars, yet share traits common to sports cars. They are sometimes called "sports cars" for marketing purposes for increased advertising and promotional purposes. Performance cars of various configurations are grouped as Sports and Grand tourer cars or, occasionally, as performance cars."

I understand that you are not into cars in general, so do not pretend to be an expert.

Do you know how to read?

"The Ford Mustang is unquestionably a performance icon in the US, but now the venerable pony car can tout being among the world's favorites, too. According to the latest global data by IHS Automotive, the 'Stang is the world's best-selling sports car through the first half of 2015, with 76,124 registrations."

Tell that to AutoBlog. You sure not Clarkson?

I understand you don't know how to read, otherwise it would be more than obvious that the Mustang is a Sports car. The Miata in that list is a Mickey Mouse car compared to a Mustang..

Who cares about AutoBlog? It is a blog. At least Jalopnik is entertaining.

I guess you did not read this (from Wikipedia):

It is like calling a Mercedes-Benz C-Class a luxury car. It is not.

What is with the Clarkson obsession? He is quite funny, but a dinosaur in the field of car journalism.

I see.. who cares about AutoBlog but here's what Wikipedia says.. funny.

Clarkson is notorious for making stupid comments, about cars, people, countries. Admit it, you sorta put your foot in your mouth.

Miata 155hp = Sports car

Mustang 300-435hp = Not a Sports car..

Consider posting that in a Mustang forum, see what replies you get..

It's like calling yourself a car expert.. you're not..but nice try..

It is not about hp, but handling, build characteristics, number of seats, weight, etc. Please read the Wikipedia article again...and again.

Most dedicated Mustang owners know that they are not driving a sports car, but a muscle/pony car. Why? Because they are into cars. Muscle cars are cheaper to maintain and way more practical than proper sports cars (Corvette and Viper). That is the reason why so many people love pony/muscle cars. The Ferrari FF, for instance, has 651 hp, but is still not a proper sports cars.

Did Clarkson offend you? Haha.

Why don't you stop?

The nature of a sports car and such has no relevance to the Volkswagen diesel problems.

Yadda..yadda.yadda.. the 155hp Miata is a $24K sports car, but the "cheaper to maintain" Mustang, $33+K with twice the horse power(on its base config) is not a sports car. Dude, quit with the nonsense. I owned a Cobra in the past. I know the difference.

Now he jumps from the Miata to the Ferrari FF, why not bring the Veyron in again?

Mustang owners are into cars? No they are into WWII airplanes.. what a jewel.. move on.. you're becoming redundant..

Just give up, Trigger-f. You are not into cars. Why? 1) You do not even know the distinction between various types of cars. 2) You are obsessed with hp. 300 hp = sports car 3) You own a VW Passat wagon. . It is like discussing with a 10-year-old boy.

This is not even a car forum, so back to the topic:
