It just shows that Germans love money and greediness like everyone else rather than being so virtuous as they could seem.
PS.
Please notice that "they" is a huge generalisation.

There are 3134 counties in the US, and one Texas county is suing VW for $100M. This could get popular, with a lot of counties trying to close budget deficits.

Volkswagen’s share price finally caught a break. The German auto maker’s share price was up by 2.8% in morning trading, after China halved its tax on small cars, and a Wall Street Journal report suggested the company could evade criminal charges in the US (paywall). But at least one US county is suing VW, which admitted to cheating on emissions tests, for $100 million; the company has lost over $30 billion in value in recent days.

VOLKSWAGEN — TTIP ANGLE: Germans who recently overwhelmingly told Pew Research that they don’t trust American consumer and environmental standards now look a little silly. While 96 percent trust EU standards, only 2 percent trust American regulators to get the job done — the same regulators who uncovered the Volkswagen cheating. That undermines the strong anti-TTIP movement in Germany, who base a significant part of their argument on the idea that aligning with the U.S. is a “race to the bottom.” http://bit.ly/1KyVmzS

More on that Texas lawsuit. The numbers are - potentially - astronomical for VW, if other counties follow the Harris County, Texas lead.

I had no idea that Germany and its culture and values were inextricably linked to and defined by Volkswagen.

Thanks city-data for yet another insight into our world and how it works.

So you believe the Germans and the Europeans in general will blame the disaster on the Americans? Who then?

Too some degree I would think only a German would have the nerve enough to pull off such a scam and the stubborness to have stuck with it for years...

This is not US versus Germany/Europe. It is just VW versus the government in the US, Europe, etc. And the customers, of course.

it's ironic and hypercritical when the U.S. has states who don't give a f ck about pollution/environment at all.

Look at all these trucks that drive around in the redneck states. I don't think any of these little VW Diesel cars come close to the pollution those trucks cause.

Why ONLY A GERMAN?

Let me guess - because they are all nazis?

They house hundreds of thousands of refugees right now because they are still trying to make up for what Hitler did but of course it is never enough.
