About a year back, I had the crazy Idea of moving to Spain. I speak spanish, have my education finished, good work experience, some money in the bank; I though I was read. I ended up moving to hawaii instead, but thats another story. I never asked people in this forum for advice, however, and although I see it very unlikely for me to move to Spain in the near future, I thought of asking for directions.
First,
1. Visa
How and how hard is it to get a "Work" Visa in Spain, considering I am a US citizen?
How hard is it to live and work in Spain with a Tourist Visa?
Are immigrants prosecuted by Spansh Authorities? If so to what degree?
2. What City
What city would you recomend for an immigrant like myself and why?
3. Work
How hard is it to find a "good" job in Spain? (by a good job I mean something a bit more profecional than a waiter or cashier)
Do employers ask for a Spanish Identicication Card or the such?
If they do how hard is it to get it?
4. Renting
To my understaing it is easy to rent a place in spain if you are tourst, but what if you are not, what paperwork do you need?
How good is your Spanish? I found this .: Ministerio del Interior (España) - :. from this website. HLS Library: Immigration and Asylum Law (http://www.law.harvard.edu/library/services/research/guides/international/web_resources/asylum.php - broken link)
Google around. Spain seems to be one of the easier EU coutries for Americans looking to move. But the EU is currently in the process of making immigration more difficult than it already is.
On a tourist passport, one is usually limited to a 90 day stay. During that time it is not possible to work legally.

Remember ...if you work in another country you would still have to pay TAXES to the USA, so you basically pay double.

Not sure about Spain, but many countries have tax treaties (including with the U.S.) that prevent double taxation. U.S. citizens are still forced to complete U.S. tax returns annually regardless of where they live, but this does not mean that they are necessarily paying more tax.

There are enough people baying for blood on this forum on account of all the illegal immigration in the U.S. - I don't think it's right that you come on here asking for advice on how to do the same to another country.

I never asked HOW to do it. I am just curious how it works over there. I've heard theres alot of South American Immigrants over there and I just cant picture the Spanish Border Patrol hunting them down .

and what would be the problem if he wants to do it? one day no human being will be illegal and everybody will be able to work/live wherever they want, and it will be in part to the fact that governments will have to accept one day that immigration can't be controlled because it has always been a trait of human behavior
