I guess the implication is that western Poland is more developed, wealthier, and more progressive than eastern Poland. However, there is no strong left-wing movement in Poland that wants to turn the nation into, say, the Sweden of the east.

Perhaps not, but what is very intriguing is that the legacy of better German infrastructure has left Western Poland Wealthier and more developed with largely different voting patterns from the east.


Especially given the old German population has gone and we are dealing with Polish populations in either East or West, the largely clear division is quite remarkable.


A wonderful example of environmental conditions shaping the political psyche... Very interesting...


Although I would readily admit one must not go too far in extrapolating trends and assumptions

There are other nations in Europe where you will find different voting patterns in different regions. Not all of them were parts of other empires.
