I was stationed there during the 80's and most Germans I met liked Americans or at that very least understood how much having so many U.S. bases on their soil boosted their economy. If there was any lingering hatred from the WW II generation or their children I didn't notice it. They seemed to be forward looking people.
As for the poll it also shows that 78% of Italians and 75% of the French have a favorable view of the U.S. That seems awful high to me, as I know many Frenchmen/women don't like Americans and I don't think many Italians like us that much either. The poll appears greatly flawed to me.
This is another one of those stereotypes, I just drove to Germany a few days ago and the driving standards are horrible, even very dangerous. I lived in Texas in the past and never saw so may polite drivers in Texas and other parts of the US. So maybe that's the reason why Germans hate you, Americans do know how to drive.
