A lot of the opinions expressed in the thread seem quite strange strange. Germans don't like sweets? There are entire walls of sweets at Aldi and Lidl. I buy 1kg bags of Haribo bears there. Speedos? Maybe you are thinking of Poland. Germans just go nude.

No, I am thinking of the Stranbad Grünau. Ibiza tourist beaches have no nudity, although there are dedicated nude beaches. Contrary to American stereotypes, Spaniards are conservative and prudish compared to Germans.

Carter was liked by far in my circle and Reagan not so much...
People went crazy for Obama back in the day... exuberance would be a good description.
Clinton was the butt of many jokes and the Bushes, especially Bush 43 was not liked at all.
I was in Salzburg when Reagan visited and Air Force one was sitting on the tarmac... it was very impressive... at least for me... just seeing it right there... he opened a US embassy in Salzburg.
I did ask why people liked Carter so much... the common response was he came across as honest, sincere and believe it or not got extra points for being a farmer and engineer...

The sad thing is just about every single man, woman and child in Germany can name US Presidents and the reverse is not even close.
