Yes, such was life in 1996...people were divided between pro-burgers(America) and pro-communists(Russia) as you put it. But check the year today.

That's true, but some people talk about King Lazar (late 14th Century) as if it was yesterday.

Exactly, nowadays Eastern Europe is fully in the Western camp, and wants to get as far away from Putin as possible.

Of course now there will be a bunch of paid trolling responses about "blame the U.S.", "Russia is a victim", "Putin only wants peace with neighbors" etc.

The paid troll army in Russia is now threatening Finnish journalists, as they have done with previous efforts to expose the huge Russian state propaganda apparatus. The main propaganda center, in St. Petersburg, has been infiltrated a few previous times by Western media, and every time there are death threats and the like-

Yeah, EE is in the "western camp", that's 100% true as it unsurprisingly got invaded by the West. Nato is classic example of protection racketeering and the EU is more elegant way to steal big amounts of money and then spread Nazi propaganda about "subhuman gipsies on benefts" etc.

The Putin trolls are different story though. I've noticed considerable amount of Russian a**-kissing by some BUlgarian posters in say under Youtube videos. It goes something like: someone posts something in Russian about how Bulgaria had betrayed Russia and then someone replies how they love russia because they're brothers etc.

The former Warsaw pact countries ran into NATO and EU as soon as the Soviet Union fell. Some are even in the €-zone. And they did all this voluntarily. Nobody invaded anyone. In all this the former Warsaw pact countries have been beneficiaries. Western Europe has spewn billions and billions of Euros to the East.

The anti-EU camp is true, but it's a tiny minority, mostly consisting of ultranationalists.

^ don't want to turn into a parrot and repeat over and over again how the "net beneficiary" claim is taken out of context.
Oh yeah, sure we invited nato/eu just like we welcomed the nazis, the communists, the turks and everyone. Bring on the isis, we like them too!

As for attitude to EU in my country: it was interesting to notice how the migrant crisis cut down the popularity of Eu here! It was a useful thing for a nationalist party here what is very EU sceptical as it increased their popularity.
Before that there was an other event-the Ukraine /Crimea crisis what in turn quite the contrary blew up the popularity of EU. I believe there might be similar tendencies in some other former east bloc countries.

Indeed.

Be aware that we have countless insufferable Russian bots on here who defend Putin's 19th century style aggression, homophobia, the killing of journalists, the bullying of neighbors, etc. They defend their quasi monarch furiously. No wonder Russia is the country where no one smiles.
