No, these are all lies!

Putin is really a good and peaceful man, only misunderstood, there are no Russian state propagandists, Russia never invaded Ukraine and doesn't claim Crimea, Eastern Europe has nothing to fear from Russia, Russia never bombed Syria, and Russia doesn't poison/assassinate journalists and dissidents.

All lies, I tell you, created by the imperialist West!

There are plenty of sympathizers of the Soviet past:

Dissent is bad. You have to think in lock-step with your comrades. Otherwise you don't get to socialize and play domino.

Putin is familiar to them -- ruthless dictator, who kills his opponents. True successor to Soviet-style regime. Many Russians seem to encourage it.

You should believe nobody) Russia also divided to the several parts of political views. Some people encourage Putin`s regime, some are not! If you are not a fool, do not listen anybody. We are just only puppets. "Do not allow masters rule you" (Masters of puppets, Metallica)

Putin, an ex-KGB officer, who has murdered his opponents, has over 80% approval rating with the Russian people -- https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/how-to-understand-putins-jaw-droppingly-high-approval-ratings/2016/03/05/17f5d8f2-d5ba-11e5-a65b-587e721fb231_story.html.

That's not "some like him, some don't."

Imagine if Obama, Merkel, Hollande, or Cameron had some of their opponents and journalists murdered!!

It's hard to consider Russia a civilized, democratic society with this kind of support for an autocratic, ruthless leader.

It would be unfathomable in the western societies.

To be fair, we don't really know Putin's approval rating. Yes, he appears to have broad support, but the particular level of support is unknown.

Putin is a dictator and he controls the entire state apparatus. There is no unbiased polling coming out of Russia; everything is being manipulated by the Kremlin.

If I were Russian and forced to answer a poll, I would definitely endorse Putin. I value my family and career!

Yes, this is close to Bolsheviks' elections of 98.7%, right after they took care of the Mensheviks.

( Oh wait, there is Civis and Moscovite, but they don't do a very good job I guess. Civis is openly too hostile and Moscovite is too friendly.)
So it's either two of us, or E.E.ans ( oh sorry - CENTRAL EUROPEANS ) on here are losing it))))

Of course Russians have real support for Putin. He's the most popular leader in decades. But it's not that they populace are giving any options either. Yes, it's better than under Gorba or Yeltsin, so I guess he's good for now. He seized Crimea, and another leader would be crap nevertheless.

Unlike other Eastern European countries which overthrew Socialism by revolutions, Russians still have to overthrow their Govt. And palace intrigue of Gorbachev and Yeltsin does not count as overthrow.

We're waiting...
