You can see how R1b was brought to both Britain and Spain. But it was brought on both sides to the UK and Ireland and only the paternal side to Spain. You can certainly see why some thought erroneously that there was a British - Basque genetic connection based on R1b, though it came to Spain after Britian.
Here is genetic similarity of iron age english celts to modern populations, you can see they are very western shifted, but also northern shifted closer to Russians than Basques.

We can see that although other populations like Dutch and Germans are closer to Iberians genetically, (even closer than cornish people are to iberians), there is some ancient links between Britain and Iberia. The people that built stonehenge may have been a bit more basque like (although they also had West hunter gatherer ancestry). There is also likely to be some British-Iberian phenotypical similarities, though it is largely due to Spanish having a lot of Northern input, rather than Britian having input from the South.
