Poland seems set to become European tourism's next big thing. With a profusion of medieval towns, mighty castles, and an unspoiled countryside, there is enough to keep even the most energetic visitor busy.
The country is a very safe destination for travellers, with low risk of terrorism, natural disasters and muggings. You can have a month in Poland for the cost of a week in Paris.
Certainly becoming popular with Australians. As are Romania and Bulgaria. Outside Europe, tours to Central Asia, the Stan countries, sell really well. Frankly, many people are sick of Paris and Rome, suffering as they do with the influx of massive numbers of tourists. I know so many people who have bypassed Rome this year to go to Puglia and come back entranced. Iceland also seems to have become the place to go.
Krakow especially has been pretty popular for quite a long time for short weekend city breaks from the UK, with other cities also getting more popular over recent years. UK residents made around 2.5m trips to Poland last year, admittedly the majority of those are by Polish citizens resident in the UK returning home for visits but still there were over 700,000 tourism trips there by UK citizens. A good thing about the large Polish diaspora here is that there are regular cheap flights from all over the UK to all over Poland including many smaller cities which makes it a lot more accessible than it was say 20 years ago

Talking about the "communist countries" in Europe:
Poland is too cold, Czechia has been damaged by british and other drunk sexpats and soccer hooligans for ages, Bulgaria is too gipsy and too close to Turkey and romania is too romanian .
This leaves the obvious: Croatia.
Also Slovakia recently surpassed Czechia in terms of gdp growth and Romania are having a great economic growth since very recently: 2015. In the 20s it's either Romania or Slovakia or another obvious choice: Estonia as some sort of new Luxembourg.
Kind of old news about Poland. They've been setting tourism records every year for a while now. The only thing I see holding them back from more growth in this sector is their climate. Europeans love beaches in the summer, but not that far north!
