I reject your analogy. Immigrants to a country are not like guests at a party. Many have no relationship to one another be it based on blood or being friends. Reasons for migration often involve fear of being harmed in one's home country, famine, or loss of a home. I have heard some experts talk about two separate concepts: Migration; and flight. Migration is voluntary. Flight involves a situation where conditions in the home country are so horrible the only thing to do is leave and look for another place to live. Attending a party, of course, is a totally voluntary act.
I do not claim countries do not have any right to control their borders or to restrict immigration on some level. However, it is not productive to demonize immigrants. It would be more productive to analyze why immigrants are coming and to look towards ameliorating the reasons for flight perhaps by aiding the home country in some fashion.
That's the difficult part, because to do so would mean confronting Western policies which either cause or greatly inflame the existing the problems in those said countries.
In a host nation where beauty standards are already set, then its logical to think such is the case, regarding the news coverage/publicity.
It will of course be different in say Central Africa if a blonde hair blue eyed Alpha Male brutalizes a local black african beauty queen vs another white European tourist. Without a doubt, the local black african beauty queen will get all the publicity.
If you are in Japan, a marine raping a local Okinawan girl is going to make more headlines, then say the guy from USC raping his spring break date who is also from America in the hotel room. Why should Japan not care about the former more?
Certainly every country has crime. There is no need to import more crime from abroad. If a migrant/refugee community brings more of it than they are worth, then it is definitely a matter of discussion. And yes public opinion is valid. It is the public's decision after all; unless it a dictatorship.
At the very least, this horrible story brings grist to the mill that suggests that newcomers really need to integrate and even assimilate to the ways of their new home.

On another note while it's too early to say and generalize I think I'm seeing some new trend where left wing politics is becoming more anti-immigration, anti-islam and as they say "racist". In other words Nigel Farage unironically posted on twitter about the "flood of indians" to the UK...I never thought I'll see the day where Farage complains about non-white immigration lol, interestingly in the previous liberal decade 2010-2019 these so called far-right people were more like far-left.and to make it even more ironic the so called rightwing these days is becoming and more and more Islamized, look at the case of Andrew Tate, an exceptionally popular mixed race Muslim who is hated by the liberals...go figure.
