I am considering relocating to Madrid. I am a single, professional woman in the Tech domain in my late thirties.
I prefer living in a place where I could walk to restaurants, cafes, bars, that has a decent nightlife and where I can meet other like-minded educated professionals.

Which nice neighborhood of Madrid would you recommend that has the things mentioned above where I could find a one bedroom apartment to rent? I am an expat, but I do speak Spanish fluently, in case that matters.

I recently moved to Madrid and my observations are:

The core area, which I would define as the area within the Metro Line 6 to the North and East and the River to the West and South, is all about people meeting for coffee, drinks, food and partying. That's basically what the Spanish lifestyle and culture is all about. Madrid is an extremely safe city where women walk around on their own at all hours of the day without a lof of fear.

One thing to be aware of as an expat is that you might be eligible for the Beckham tax which means that you pay 24% on your Spanish income instead of the top rate of 47%. Since I was recruited by a Spanish company I will get this for the first 6 years of my employment.

You might have already moved to Madrid and be enjoying life but if not, I hope this helps.
