Oh OK then, if you say so:-

https://www.gov.uk/claim-asylum

There are the 'legal routes' for applying for asylum in the UK.

How is that going? I said essentially no legal route, as the government are allowing the system to break down. You will disagree, but the evidence is there.

Have you ever heard of the Schengen Agreement? Americans cannot stay in most of Europe any longer than 90 days out of 180 days.

I would assume European countries are afraid rich Americans will move there permanently and run their already expensive real estate prices out of sight. And they don't want us using their socialist healthcare too.

Visa's are very difficult and expensive to get around Schengen--unless you're a college student.

Some of the most reasonable places ($) to live are Spain and Hungary.

I leave next week for London and Rome--my second trip in a year. Just got back from Israel a few weeks ago.

I disagree because it isn't true! The link on the government web site is quite clear, the fact is the UK is having massive problems with illegal immigration, whether through the tunnel or inflatables. The UK population has grown from 58 million to 67 million since the year 2000! And that is in a country half the size of California!! Its causing massive issues here, the amount of illegal entry's into the UK (well the ones known anyway) quadrupled from 2018 to 2022, we all know about the refugee camps in Calais, thousands of people queuing to get over the channel, why don't they want to stay in France? Why aren't the French doing more to stop them?

These are the countries with the most asylum applications. As you can see the UK is quite a way down the list and just above Ireland mostly likely due to it's location. As you can see Sweden and the Scandinavian countries are the most obvious desirable locations. The migrants might have found out they all Have Sauna's in their homes which was the deciding factor

You may want to brush up a bit on visa requirements for EU countries:>)

Not only is it outdated (something very specific happened in 2015 that makes 2014 numbers basically irrelevant), but it specifically talks about 'accepted applications'. One would need to see the total number of all applications to get an idea of 'popularity' among asylum seekers.

FWIW having lived in Ireland after 2014 - I bet that those numbers looked very different just a few years later.
