I skate about 3 miles 2x a week and workout in between that at a gym. Yesteday, I went for a skate and it just sucked bigtime. I was looking forward to getting out inspite of the heat (east coast). I went evening hours so it wasn't blazing sunny.
Less than 10 minutes into skating and I realized I couldn't slow my heart rate down. I slowed my skating but it didn't help. I had to do the slowest skating of my life and I could only skate for just under 45 minutes. I kept waiting it out to see if it would pass and it didn't. What the heck was going on? Any ideas?
Yeah, I've been under a lot of stress but skating is my therapy. Was this anxiety or stress? Should I just chalk this up to "who knows" and let it go? I don't want to go off running to the doctor's office and have them tell me it's just stress. I'm going to try to skate on either Wed. or Fri to see what happens, but wonder if anyone has experienced anything similar with their workout?
Was your caffeine or salt intake higher? Sounds like it was an isolated incident due to something else ... anxiety maybe or something in your diet. If it happens continuously I would talk to your doc. It might help to keep a food journal and see if there are any correlations the days it happens compared to when it doesnt
No dietary changes, eat well, had a camel back w/ me, sleep is good, nothing out of the ordinary. I don't workout everyday, so I'm not killin myself here. It was a stressful morning, but skating takes the edge off, until yesterday.
Skatergirl, this is a long shot, but have you had your thyroid checked recently? Exercise intolerance can be an early symptom of hypothyroidism. I think you should take Jasmine's advice and make an appointment to see your doctor.
There are some days when, no matter what shape you're in, you just aren't hitting on all cylinders. If it doesn't happen again, I wouldn't worry about it.
+1 to Ohiogirl's advice....every workout can't be a winner. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes a more regular thing.
