Hello CD-ers!

I have just recently moved to a new apartment in Chicago, because of that, I have taken up a new route for running. I am curious if there is any free sites where I can find out the distance of my route.

Is there a website that you can essentially draw your route onto a map and it will give you the distance traveled?

I only know of two other options, but neither are "cheap". One would be to get a bike and put an odometer on it, the other is to buy a GPS enabled watch which is also expensive. The third option to drive my car the same route is not possible because much of the paths I run are along the lakeshore and not city blocks that can be driven on. Please help!

There are quite a few websites that allow you to map your routes. Google them and you will have your pick.

MapMyRun is great. Here is my usual 5k run route. Not sure why it doesnt connect here, but its a complete loop which I love.

MapMyRun is terrific. There is an iphone and android app for it too. I haven't tried it yet, but there's a feature on it that tracks your run via the GPS in your phone. Not sure how well it works though, I never carry my phone with me on a run. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Mapmyrun is good, tracks well with both android and iphones

MyTracks is imho better for android.

I only carry my phone on the bike. When I run, I just use google maps, if the trails are marked (they 99% of the time are)

Get a Garmin watch. The cheaper versions are $100 and well worth the money. They measure your mileage accurately as well.
