I'm thinking that bikers and runners seem to be real serious. But I am unfamiliar with martial artists and boxers.

What do you mean by "most serious"? Im sure the athletes who do the things you mentioned are all "serious" about what they do.

I think the most serious athelete is the spec ops soldier. Out of shape means death for you, your team-mates and your mission.

I don't know how to answer that question while sounding proper. Perhaps I will figure out something later.

The word amateur doesn't really come to mind with this one?

I didn't vote in the poll because I feel that there is really no fair way to accurately gauge the seriousness of an athlete based only on his or her chosen discipline. Some cyclists are more serious and committed than some runners, while the opposite is also sometimes true. A boxer can be more serious than a weightlifter, or, vice versa. What constitutes true "seriousness" is rather, not one's chosen field of endeavor but rather his total committment to it. A truly serious athlete places his exercise above all else, and then fits and adjusts his lifestyle around that, rather than merely trying to "fit in" his workouts with his daily routines.
Having said that, if the question was which athletes were the most well-rounded and therefore the most fit overall, I would hazard to posit that, in all likelyhood that best answer would be the Tri-Athletes, since that discipline comprises three events, all of which also require additional cross-training methods.

You probably mean "The most BADA$$ athletes are......"

If that is what you mean, then I have to go with in the following order:

1. CrossFit competitors. Without a doubt the fittest athletes on the planet.
2. NFL Linebackers (like my former USC bada$$es Clay Mathews and Brian Cushing)
3. NFL Free Safetys and NFL Strong Safetys (Troy Polamalu)
4. REAL boxing legends/champions - Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Khaosai Galaxy, Manny Pacqiao.
