i remember in school there was some chinese guy with a sword doing weird tai chi type stuff in a parking lot every now and then. i walked far away from that guy.
I always warm up by eating 30 mins prior. When its extra difficult then i take a tiny bite of a cookie or cupcake and guilt myself into working out... But thats desperate measures and not exactly recommended!
you should take protein before as well. Along with right after waking up and taking it after a workout, taking it before is one of the most important times.
Taijiquan = Supreme Ultimate Fist. Best martial artist/fighter Ive ever met (other than my Wing Chun Sifu) was an old tai chi dude. No joke, someone who is skilled in taiji boxing are not to be messed with.
Its more of a cool down for me though. BTW, Ive been teaching taiji now for just over 15 years. Great exercise especially if done/taught with concentration on chi. Without the internal its just rudimentary exercise. But with proper breathing, chi movement, faa jing, etc. then you've got a bada$$ martial art on your hand.
OP, since you are working out at night, I suggest concentrating on nutrition for energy instead of some pill or drink. You dont want to be up all night from having drank a red bull or two. Another extremely motivating factor is doing timed workouts. Like an HIT plan or CrossFit routine where you time your workout. Its like shooting for a world record each time out and its VERY motivating.
I took up Martial Arts and the only time had was right before lunch. It wasn't a bad deal I was generally too tired to even find food. So I started taking Creotine 30 minutes before Martial Arts class and it worked great. I felt great after class and wasn't to tired to go eat or back to work etc. Anyhow, it's just an idea.
