Default Powders

Whatever is your personal preference. Choc or vanilla powders I mix w/milk. Any other flavors get mixed w/water.

I hate mixing my protein with water. HATE IT. I am strictly a whole milk guy (the milk with the red caps). Never touch the other stuff.

then use whole milk. it will taste better and will give you some extra beefcake calories.

you could even save money on the powder and just drink whole milk.

This.

Try drinking a gallon of whole milk a day - something I've known lots of powerlifters to do. That will give you tons of protein AND lots of calories to pack on the mass.

I always mix whey protein with milk. Your body absorbs whey protein extremely quickly, so if you mix it with water you just get a spike of amino availability that rapidly drops to "background". I think it makes a lot more sense to take whey protein in conjunction with a longer acting protein source, whether that's with a serving of full-fat dairy, a serving of animal protein or a serving of vegetable protein like oats, nuts or legumes to give your amino availability curve a more useful taper.

I'm pretty sure that was a joke about drinking a gallon of whole milk per day. Unless you're putting about 50 hours per week into the gym I doubt you need a 2500 calorie per week supplement. Also, regardless of how much or how hard you train - you will still convert any calories over your daily maintenance into fat.

Not a joke, at all. As I said, I know of several powerlifters who do this very thing. Jim Wendler himself has done it.

He said "bulk up" - most people accept that a little bad weight is part of the price you pay for a bulking phase...
